"You-can-have-mine" Trout; The Story

Bob and I were fishing in Sallie Keys Lakes on the John Muir Trail above the Muir Trail Ranch out of Florence Lake, and we were catching fish with every cast.  We caught and released about 100 fish in 3 hours, but we kept 4 fish to eat, two each.  They were no larger than 6 to 8 inches, but Bob was bound to cook them anyway.   He cleaned them, and asked for my freeze-dried Turkey Tetrazini empty pouch when I was finished with it,  he was going to show me a way to cook them that I had not seen before.  He put the fish in the empty pouch, added water and garlic salt, and tightly wrapped the top of the pouch and set it by the fire.

I questioned him about the wisdom of this process, but he re-assured me of the outcome.  Not believing, I told him he could have my fish.  The whole process looked disgusting to me.  When they were done, he again asked if I wanted my fish, and I said again, "You can have mine".  He continued to insist I just take a bite, so I acquiesced, and LORDY!!

Best fish I ever put in my mouth.  I snatched mine away from him to his extremely pleasure and gloating, and I quickly gobbled them down.  He laughed all night, and from then on, no matter the situation, everytime we go fishing, and he's going to cook, he says "You can have mine", just to rub it in.  So, the recipe has been named "You-can-have-mine" Trout, and it is a cherished family recipe surely to be handed down through the generations.

Yeah, I know, there's not a whole lot of action to that story; you had to be there.
